California wild fires are the "new normal" with both the 2018 Camp Fire (Butte county) and the more recent 2025 Palisade and Eaton Fires (LA county) destroying over 18,000 structures each, releasing in the process massive levels of  storm water pollutants in the process. This workshop will share the research behind why compost filters socks have become the "BMP of choice" for reducing and capturing the toxins coming off of burn sites to protect the integrity of the impacted watersheds.  Research from Chico State University will be presented showing the effectiveness of compost filter socks in removing numerous toxins from storm water run-off  following the Camp Fire and published by CalRecycle in late 2024. You won't want to miss this timely and important new research evaluating what works and what doesn't when treating storm water run-off following a wildfire.
