About the event

This workshop is hosted by Graham Tait, a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Specialist with The City of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. Referring to Calgary's Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program, Graham will be providing an in-depth review of practices, strategies, pitfalls, and successes in establishing safe, effective, and sustainable industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) stormwater pollution prevention compliance programs in urban municipalities. Learnings will include examples across a variety of ICI facilities from municipal/public work yards to private facilities (e.g., automotive, metal-plating, transportation, food manufacturing).

Are you a stormwater compliance manager, are you responsible for preparing ICI-related SWPPPs, or are you part of the regulated community that wants to find out more about stormwater pollutants of concern, and effective pollution prevention best practice selection, monitoring, and maintenance? Join Graham for unique insights into Calgary's stormwater regulatory environment, and with good comparisons to your own jurisdictional requirements.

Note: If you can make it, please join Graham's colleague, Parker Mathieson, for Workshop 2/2. Since our need to pivot during Covid-19, Parker has been instrumental in developing a fully digital, geospatially supported process for Calgary's ESC and ICI-Stormwater Pollution Prevention lines of service!

About The City of Calgary and Stormwater Pollution Prevention:

The City of Calgary (known in the Blackfoot language as Moh-kins-tsis) in Alberta, Canada lies east of the Rocky Mountains at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow Rivers and is a diverse and rapidly growing city.   Over the past 25 years, Calgary’s Water Utility has developed a robust Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program, delivered by the Water Utility’s Water Quality & Regulatory Assurance (WQRA) Division.   A key component of this work has focused on planning, adapting, and implementing effective erosion and sediment control (ESC) compliance requirements for construction sites within Calgary to help minimize discharge of sediment into our stormwater system and, ultimately, our sensitive receiving waters. Additionally, a growing demand to support mitigation efforts for spill responses of potentially harmful materials to Calgary's stormwater system has resulted in Calgary adding an industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program to complement our ESC line of service.
