About the event

Although compost-based Best Management Practices (BMPs) were introduced over 20 years ago as effective and proven storm water management tools, not until SB1383, The California Short-lived Greenhouse Gas Legislation, went into effect in January 2022, did cities and local jurisdictions begin to take a serious second look at this nature-based technology. As every city in the state struggles to find ways to divert 75% of organics from their landfills by 2025, compost BMP's offer not only research-based effective storm water management tools, but also a way to help cities meet their organic diversion requirements or face stiff financial penalties in the future for not doing so. This seminar will present an overview of how various compost applications can utilize diverted organics to deliver exceptional erosion and sediment control and upon completion of a project, be land-applied to deliver additional ecosystem benefits like increased storm water capture and carbon sequestration while also meeting local organic compliance requirements.
