About the event

Join an expert panel featuring Natalie Levy from University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources (UCANR), and Cory Yamaguchi of Finn Corporation for a timely discussion on compost as a powerful tool for stormwater and fire remediation, moderated by Katya Forsyth from the Association of Compost Producers.

In the wake of the 2025 Palisades and Eaton fires, compost was deployed in a variety of mediums as both an immediate disaster response and as a long term solution for bioremediation and developing resilient landscapes. This session will explore how compost can help control erosion, reduce flood risks by stabilizing soils, and restore soil health in fire-damaged areas—turning disaster recovery into an opportunity for regeneration.

Our panelists will provide insight into the opportunities and challenges of compost use, as well the scientific background and practical strategies for integrating compost into land management, environmental compliance, and community planning. Whether you work in policy, public works, landscaping, or watershed stewardship, you’ll leave with actionable ways to harness the benefits of compost to protect communities from both fire and flood.
